The Philippines can expect a day of isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms, according to the latest forecast from PAGASA, issued at 4:00 AM on May 12, 2026, and valid until 4:00 AM tomorrow. The agency advises residents across the country to remain vigilant for potential flash floods and landslides, particularly during severe thunderstorms.

National Weather Overview

Across Metro Manila and the rest of the Philippines, PAGASA forecasts partly cloudy to cloudy skies. These conditions are expected to bring isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms throughout the day. This widespread possibility of thunderstorms necessitates preparedness nationwide.

PAGASA noted that at 3:00 AM today, a Low Pressure Area (formerly known as "CALOY") was estimated to be 690 km East of Catarman, Northern Samar (12.7 ºN, 131.0 ºE). While the LPA's direct impact is still being assessed, it contributes to the overall weather pattern affecting the country.

Regional Forecasts

Luzon

For Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, residents should prepare for partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms. The wind will be light to moderate, blowing from the southeast to northeast across most of Luzon. In the eastern section of Southern Luzon, the wind will be light to moderate, coming from the northeast to northwest. These conditions increase the chance of localized thunderstorms which may cause flash floods in low-lying areas.

Visayas

The Visayas region will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms. The eastern section of the Visayas will have light to moderate winds blowing from the northeast to northwest. As with Luzon, the main concern is the potential for flash floods and landslides during strong thunderstorms.

Mindanao

Mindanao will also see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms. The northeastern section of Mindanao will experience light to moderate winds coming from the northeast to northwest, while the rest of the region will have light to moderate winds that are variable in direction. Residents should monitor for updates in case the LPA shifts.

Wind and Coastal Water Conditions

Across the Philippines, wind conditions are expected to be generally light to moderate. Specifically, in the eastern section of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and the northeastern section of Mindanao, winds will blow from the northeast to northwest. In the rest of Luzon, winds will be from the southeast to northeast. For the remainder of Mindanao, winds will be variable.

Coastal waters nationwide are expected to be slight to moderate. Wave heights are forecast to range from 0.6 to 2.1 meters in the eastern section of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and the northeastern section of Mindanao. The rest of Luzon should anticipate wave heights between 0.6 and 1.5 meters, and the rest of Mindanao, between 0.6 and 1.2 meters.

Temperature and Humidity

Yesterday, the PAGASA Weather Station in Science Garden, Diliman Quezon City, recorded a maximum temperature of 35.1°C at 3:00 PM and a minimum temperature of 28.1°C at 5:00 AM. The relative humidity ranged from 72% at 5:00 AM to 46% at 3:00 PM.

Safety Precautions

Given the forecast for isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms, PAGASA advises the public to take necessary precautions. Be aware of the potential for flash floods in low-lying areas and landslides in mountainous regions. During thunderstorms, seek shelter indoors and avoid open areas. Stay informed about weather updates and advisories from PAGASA.
