Its epicenter was located 70 kilometers south-southwest of Balut Island in the Municipality of Sarangani, Davao Occidental, at coordinates 4.82°N, 125.21°E. The quake originated at a depth of 38 kilometers and was classified by PHIVOLCS-DOST as tectonic in origin — meaning it was caused by natural movement along fault structures in the earth's crust.

Sultan Kudarat: Palimbang
Instrumental measurements confirmed Intensity V shaking in Kiamba and Malapatan in Sarangani, and T'boli in South Cotabato.
Intensity IV — Moderately Strong Shaking
Intensity IV shaking — noticeable to most people, with hanging objects swinging visibly — was reported in:
Sarangani: Glan, Maasim, and Maitum
Davao Occidental: Don Marcelino and Santa Maria
City of Davao
Davao del Sur: Matanao
South Cotabato: City of Koronadal, Polomolok, and Tupi
Instrumental readings confirmed Intensity IV in the City of General Santos; Malungon, Maitum, Kiamba, and Maasim in Sarangani; and Tupi and the City of Koronadal in South Cotabato.
Intensity III — Weak to Moderately Felt
Intensity III shaking was reported in:
City of Davao; Davao del Sur: Matanao
South Cotabato: Tampakan, Norala, Banga, Tantangan, Santo Niño, and Surallah
Cotabato: City of Kidapawan and Makilala

Instrumental Intensity III was recorded in Santa Maria, Davao Occidental; Banga, Surallah, Santo Niño, and Tampakan in South Cotabato; City of Kidapawan in Cotabato; and Palimbang, President Quirino, Esperanza, and Lebak in Sultan Kudarat.
Intensity II — Slightly Felt
Intensity II shaking — felt by a few people, especially those at rest — was reported in:

Instrumental Intensity II readings were logged in Magsaysay in Davao del Sur; Norala in South Cotabato; Isulan and Kalamansig in Sultan Kudarat; M'lang and Magpet in Cotabato; and Columbio in Sultan Kudarat.
Intensity I — Scarcely Perceptible
Intensity I — detectable only by instruments or felt by very few individuals under especially sensitive conditions — was reported in:
Cotabato: Alamada and Carmen
Sultan Kudarat: Senator Ninoy Aquino
Bukidnon: San Fernando and Kalilangan
Instrumental Intensity I was recorded in President Roxas and Carmen in Cotabato.
Damage and Aftershock Assessment
PHIVOLCS-DOST assessed that no damage is expected from this earthquake. However, the agency states that aftershocks are expected following this event.
