COTABATO CITY — Army and police commanders inspected security operations in Cotabato City on October 27, 2026, as forces prepared for the election for Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Chief Minister on October 30, the 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division said.
Brigadier General Edgar L. Catu, commander of the 6th Infantry Division and Joint Task Force Central, led the ocular inspection. He was joined by Police Colonel Jibin M. Bongcayao, City Director of the Cotabato City Police Office, and members of the 6ID Division General Staff.
According to the division, the inspection focused on strengthening security measures and operational preparedness so that security forces remain ready to respond to potential threats in Cotabato City before, during and after the October 30 vote. It also underscored close coordination between the military and the Philippine National Police.
"The 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division and Joint Task Force Central remain committed to maintaining peace and order throughout the October 30, 2026, BARMM Chief Minister selection process," Catu said. "We will continue to work closely with the PNP, the BARMM government, local government units, and other stakeholders to prevent peace spoilers from attempting to disrupt the process."
Catu urged the public to stay vigilant and to promptly report suspicious activities to authorities.
Major General Jose Vladimir R. Cagara, acting commander of the Western Mindanao Command (WESTMINCOM), called on the public to respect the democratic process. "We encourage everyone to respect the democratic process and support whoever is elected as BARMM Chief Minister," Cagara said.
