The Philippine Military Academy (PMA) staged an Olympic shooting demonstration for more than 450 cadets of the Cadet Corps Armed Forces of the Philippines at Fort Del Pilar, Baguio City, on Wednesday, July 1, giving the corps a direct look at competitive shooting as a sport distinct from standard military marksmanship training.
The event was organized in coordination with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and the Philippine National Shooting Association (PNSA), according to the PMA Public Affairs Office. Foreign coach Mukhamedrakhmov Azizjon was present to guide participants through the discipline, safety protocols, and techniques specific to Olympic-level shooting.
Competitive Shooting vs. Military Marksmanship
The demonstration gave cadets a clearer understanding of how Olympic shooting differs from the practical marksmanship that forms a core part of their military curriculum. According to PMA, while field marksmanship remains an essential skill for any future officer, engaging with the sport in a competitive context can sharpen a cadet's motivation and deepen their commitment to mastery.
The academy said the activity stirred visible interest among the ranks and opened the door to future cadet involvement in the sport.
PMA–PSC Partnership Behind the Initiative
The demonstration is part of an ongoing collaboration between PMA and the Philippine Sports Commission to expose cadets to a broader range of sports disciplines as part of their holistic development, the PMA Public Affairs Office said in its press release.
The PSC has been backing sports development at Fort Del Pilar with a shared objective of identifying and producing future Olympians from within the cadet corps. The July 1 activity is one of several initiatives under that partnership aimed at instilling focus, discipline, and excellence in the officers PMA is preparing for national service.

The demonstration reflects a deliberate effort by PMA and the PSC to develop cadets as potential competitive athletes alongside their military formation, with the explicit goal of producing future Olympians from the corps. By integrating Olympic sports exposure into cadet development, the academy is expanding pathways through which Filipino military officers can represent the country on the international stage.
