The Philippine Army welcomed Thailand's incoming and outgoing Defense Attachés during a formal visit at Headquarters Philippine Army, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City on October 7, 2026, reaffirming defense ties between the two countries.

Philippine Army Vice Commander (VCPA) Maj. Gen. Efren F. Morados received outgoing Defense Attaché Group Captain Nirut Rattanjanya and incoming Defense Attaché Group Captain Viprasit Photimaniee during the visit, according to a Philippine Army statement.

Outgoing Attaché Recognized for Bilateral Contributions

Maj. Gen. Morados expressed appreciation to Group Captain Rattanjanya for his role in strengthening military-to-military relations between the Philippines and Thailand during his tenure as Defense Attaché, the Philippine Army said.

The statement did not specify the duration of Rattanjanya's assignment, but his recognition by the Army Vice Commander underscored the significance of his contributions to the bilateral defense relationship.

Incoming Attaché Greeted With Pledge of Continued Cooperation

Maj. Gen. Morados also formally welcomed Group Captain Photimaniee and conveyed the Philippine Army's readiness to further enhance cooperation and engagement with Thailand under his new assignment, according to the same statement.

The visit served as an opportunity for both the Philippine Army and the Royal Thai Armed Forces to reaffirm their longstanding defense and security relations and to exchange views on matters of mutual interest, the Army said.

Philippine Army Reaffirms Regional Defense Commitment

The Philippine Army, in its statement, said it "remains committed to strengthening its defense partnerships with like-minded regional counterparts through meaningful engagements, cooperation, and mutual support, consistent with the country's commitment to regional peace, stability, and security."

Why This Matters

The formal exchange of Defense Attachés between the Philippines and Thailand reflects the continued importance both nations place on military-to-military engagement as a pillar of regional security cooperation. By welcoming the incoming attaché at the Army Vice Commander level, the Philippine Army signaled institutional commitment to sustaining and deepening its defense relationship with Thailand. Such engagements contribute to the broader framework of regional peace and stability within Southeast Asia.
