The Philippines can expect a mix of weather conditions today, with scattered rains and thunderstorms possible across the archipelago. According to the latest forecast from PAGASA, the easterlies are influencing the country's weather patterns, bringing the potential for localized heavy rainfall and associated hazards.

Regional Forecasts

Luzon

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon are forecast to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms. PAGASA warns of the possibility of flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms. Residents are advised to stay vigilant, especially in low-lying areas and near waterways.

Extreme Northern Luzon will have moderate to strong winds blowing from the east to northeast. This will result in moderate to rough coastal waters, with wave heights ranging from 1.5 to 2.8 meters. Sea travel may be risky for smaller vessels in these areas.

Visayas

The Visayas region, similar to Luzon, is expected to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms. The public should remain aware of the potential for flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms and take appropriate safety measures.

Winds across the Visayas will be light to moderate, coming from the east to northeast. Coastal waters are expected to be slight to moderate, with wave heights between 0.6 and 2.1 meters.

Mindanao

Zamboanga Peninsula in Mindanao is specifically highlighted in the PAGASA forecast. This region should prepare for cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms. PAGASA explicitly states that possible flash floods or landslides could occur due to moderate to, at times, heavy rains. Residents in vulnerable areas should be ready to evacuate if necessary.

The rest of Mindanao will likely see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms, similar to the Visayas and Luzon. Exercise caution and stay updated on the latest weather advisories.

Across Mindanao, winds will be light to moderate, blowing from the east to northeast, with slight to moderate coastal waters and wave heights between 0.6 and 2.1 meters.

Temperature and Wind Outlook

Yesterday, the maximum temperature recorded at the PAGASA Weather Station in Science Garden, Diliman Quezon City, was 34.6°C at 4:00 PM, while the minimum temperature was 21.5°C at 5:00 AM. The relative humidity ranged from a maximum of 73% at 5:00 AM to a minimum of 35% at 4:00 PM.

As mentioned, Extreme Northern Luzon can expect moderate to strong winds, while the rest of the country will experience light to moderate winds. These wind conditions will affect coastal waters, with higher waves expected in Extreme Northern Luzon.

Safety Precautions

In light of the forecast for scattered rains and thunderstorms, PAGASA advises the public to take the following precautions:

  • Stay informed: Monitor the latest weather updates from PAGASA and local news sources.
  • Prepare for heavy rainfall: Clear drainage systems around your homes to prevent flooding.
  • Avoid flooded areas: Do not attempt to cross flooded roads or waterways.
  • Be aware of landslides: If you live in a mountainous area, be alert for signs of landslides, such as cracks in the ground or unusual movement of soil.
  • Secure your property: Bring loose objects indoors and secure outdoor structures.
  • Have an emergency plan: Discuss with your family what to do in case of a severe weather event.

PAGASA Monitoring

PAGASA continues to monitor weather conditions across the Philippines and will issue updates as necessary. The public is urged to stay vigilant and take all necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
