The Philippine Air Force (PAF) brought its modernization showcase to the University of Santo Tomas in Manila on April 21, 2026, conducting a comprehensive exhibit that highlighted the service branch's transformation under its Flight Plan 2040 strategic framework.

The pre-anniversary exhibit, held at UST's España Boulevard campus in Sampaloc, Manila, served as part of the PAF's 79th Founding Anniversary celebration. The event was anchored on the theme "PAF@79: Forging a Credible, Agile, and Multi-Domain Air Force through Mission Readiness, Capability Development, and Values-Based Service."

According to the Air Force Public Affairs Office, the one-day exhibition was formally opened by Colonel Ma Christina O Basco PAF (GSC), Chief of the Air Force Public Affairs Office, alongside university officials including Associate Professor Juliano S. Parena Jr., PhD, Director of the Campus Safety and Security Office, and Ms. Michaela O. Lagniton, Director of the Office of Public Affairs.

Interactive Displays Highlight Air Force Capabilities

The exhibit featured interactive displays, flight simulators, and audio-visual presentations designed to showcase the PAF's evolving capabilities and modernization milestones. The presentations emphasized the Air Force's contributions to national defense while simultaneously promoting career opportunities within the military branch.

PAF officers, enlisted personnel, and reservists joined members of the UST community during the exhibition, which aimed to bridge the gap between the military and civilian academic institutions. The event coincided with the University of Santo Tomas' own founding anniversary celebration, creating a collaborative atmosphere for the military showcase.

The Flight Plan 2040 strategic framework, prominently featured throughout the exhibit, outlines the PAF's long-term vision for modernization and capability enhancement. This comprehensive plan encompasses various aspects of air force development, from equipment acquisition to personnel training and strategic positioning.

Colonel Emphasizes Public Engagement Mission

In her message during the event, Colonel Basco emphasized the importance of bringing the PAF closer to the Filipino people through such public exhibitions. She highlighted that the showcase goes beyond displaying military assets to demonstrate the underlying purpose of the Air Force's mission.

"The exhibit brings the PAF closer to the people by showcasing not only its assets but also the purpose behind its mission to protect the nation's skies, support ground forces, and deliver aid during disasters," Colonel Basco stated, according to the Air Force Public Affairs Office.

The PAF chief specifically addressed the Thomasian community, encouraging students to consider their role in nation-building. She underscored that the Air Force's effectiveness depends on committed Filipinos willing to serve their country in various capacities.

FOCUS PAF Framework Guides Strategic Direction

Colonel Basco referenced the "FOCUS PAF" framework during her address, highlighting how this strategic approach guides the service branch's core values and operational priorities. The framework represents the Air Force's systematic approach to addressing contemporary security challenges while maintaining readiness for future threats.

The exhibition served multiple purposes beyond public relations, functioning as a recruitment tool and educational platform. By targeting university students, the PAF aimed to attract qualified candidates for future officer and enlisted positions while building awareness about military career opportunities.

The timing of the exhibit at UST's founding anniversary celebration allowed the Air Force to reach a diverse academic audience, including students from various disciplines who might consider military service or defense-related careers upon graduation.

Multi-Domain Approach Addresses Modern Challenges

The PAF's emphasis on becoming a "multi-domain" force reflects contemporary military thinking about integrated operations across land, sea, air, space, and cyber domains. This approach acknowledges that modern security challenges require coordinated responses across multiple operational environments.

The Flight Plan 2040 framework addresses capability development through systematic modernization efforts, including equipment acquisition, training enhancement, and infrastructure development. These initiatives aim to position the PAF as a credible deterrent while maintaining agility in response to various mission requirements.

The exhibition highlighted the PAF's disaster response capabilities, emphasizing the dual role of military forces in both defense and humanitarian assistance. This aspect resonates particularly well with civilian audiences who may witness Air Force involvement during natural disasters and emergency situations.

Strategic Partnership with Academic Institutions

The collaboration with the University of Santo Tomas represents part of a broader PAF strategy to engage with academic institutions across the Philippines. These partnerships serve multiple purposes, including recruitment, public education, and research collaboration opportunities.

University partnerships also provide platforms for the military to demonstrate transparency and accountability to civilian populations. By conducting public exhibitions and educational programs, the PAF maintains its connection with the communities it serves.

The Air Force Public Affairs Office indicated that such public engagement activities will continue as part of the PAF's commitment to strengthening relationships with civilian institutions and inspiring future generations of military personnel.

According to the official statement, the Philippine Air Force remains committed to advancing its capabilities while maintaining its mission of serving the nation through credible, agile, and multi-domain operations under the Flight Plan 2040 strategic framework.
