The Philippine Air Force (PAF) formally concluded its Sanay Bagwis 03-2026 field training exercise on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, through a closing ceremony held at Brigadier General Benito N. Ebuen Air Base in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, according to the PAF.
The exercise, a unilateral PAF undertaking, assessed operational readiness, improved inter-unit coordination, and demonstrated the employment of air assets across a range of military and humanitarian mission scenarios.
Field Training Conducted Over Two Days
The Field Training Exercise (FTX) component of Sanay Bagwis 03-2026 was carried out on October 10 and 12, 2026, the PAF said. The closing ceremony on October 13 marked the official culmination of the entire exercise cycle.
Both active and reserve PAF personnel took part in the training, with various units contributing to a coordinated series of simulated operational activities across the exercise period.
Six Mission Types Tested Across the Exercise
According to the PAF, participating units carried out activities covering six distinct mission areas: personnel insertion and extraction, disaster assessment and response support, medical evacuation and casualty care, aerial delivery of supplies, personnel mobility, and support to mass mobilization.
Various aircraft assets were employed in accordance with their designated capabilities and mission roles, demonstrating their contributions to transporting personnel and supplies, responding to emergencies, and meeting broader mission requirements.
Active and Reserve Forces Train Side by Side
The PAF said the exercise was made possible through the coordinated participation of multiple PAF units, with both active and reserve forces deploying personnel in the field training environment.
By integrating these varied activities into a live field setting, the exercise gave PAF personnel the opportunity to apply their training, coordinate actions in real time, and assess their capacity to respond to changing operational demands.
Air Support Role in Humanitarian Operations Highlighted
The PAF emphasized that Sanay Bagwis 03-2026 underscored the critical importance of coordinated air support in sustaining both military operations and humanitarian response efforts. The exercise was designed to reflect realistic conditions that PAF units may encounter in actual mission deployments.
The integration of disaster response scenarios — including casualty care and aerial supply delivery — reflected the PAF's dual mandate to support national defense and civilian humanitarian requirements, according to the PAF statement.
By the Numbers
- October 10 and 12, 2026 — dates the Field Training Exercise was conducted
- October 13, 2026 — date of the closing ceremony at Ebuen Air Base
- 6 mission types covered: personnel insertion/extraction, disaster assessment and response, medical evacuation and casualty care, aerial supply delivery, personnel mobility, and mass mobilization support
Why This Matters
Sanay Bagwis 03-2026 represents a structured effort by the Philippine Air Force to validate and sharpen the operational readiness of both its active and reserve components under realistic field conditions. The exercise tested the PAF's capacity to respond to a wide range of scenarios — from combat-support missions to disaster relief — underscoring the air force's role as a key asset in both national security and humanitarian operations. The successful culmination at Ebuen Air Base signals that participating units have met the training benchmarks set for this exercise cycle.
