MANILA, Philippines — A Magnitude 4.0 tectonic aftershock was recorded near the City of Bogo in Cebu on Saturday evening, September 5, 2026, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported. No damage or further aftershocks are expected from this event, according to the agency.

Event Details and Location

The earthquake struck at 9:10:21 PM Philippine Standard Time (PHT) on Saturday. PHIVOLCS-DOST pinpointed its epicenter at 10.92°N, 123.81°E, which is approximately 23 kilometers south 51 degrees west of the City of Bogo, Cebu. The tremor had a shallow depth of only 4 kilometers and was tectonic in origin, meaning it was caused by the movement of active faults.

Aftershock Context and Impact Assessment

PHIVOLCS identified this Magnitude 4.0 event as an aftershock of the Magnitude 6.9 earthquake that occurred offshore Northern Cebu on September 30, 2025. This context helps understand the seismic activity in the region.
