CEBU, Philippines — A magnitude 4.1 aftershock struck near the town of Medellin in northern Cebu on Tuesday afternoon, September 22, 2026, with the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS-DOST) reporting no expected damage from the event.
What Happened and Where
PHIVOLCS-DOST recorded the earthquake at 2:48 PM Philippine Standard Time (PHT) on September 22, 2026. The epicenter was located approximately 11 kilometers south-southeast of Medellin, Cebu, at coordinates 11.12°N, 124.06°E. The earthquake had a shallow depth of focus of 2 kilometers and was tectonic in origin.
Aftershock of the 2025 Northern Cebu Earthquake
PHIVOLCS-DOST identified this event as an aftershock of the September 30, 2025 Mw6.9 Offshore Northern Cebu earthquake. Nearly a year after that major earthquake, seismic activity related to it continues to be recorded in the area.

PHIVOLCS-DOST stated that no damage is expected from this earthquake. The agency likewise does not expect further aftershocks from this particular event.
