The Canlaon City government has lifted the suspension of classes in all public and private schools effective August 26, 2026, following improved conditions after ashfall from Kanlaon Volcano.
Mayor Jose Chubasco B. Cardenas issued Executive Order No. 83, Series of 2026, allowing face-to-face classes and other school activities requiring the physical presence of students to resume.
The city had earlier suspended classes beginning August 24 at 12 noon as a precaution against ashfall and the continuing volcanic activity of Kanlaon Volcano.
The decision to resume classes followed the latest monitoring and advisories from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, which showed improved conditions that no longer warranted a continued citywide suspension.
Schools located within Kanlaon Volcano's six-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone are subject to a separate provision. The resumption or continuation of classes in these areas will be left to the discretion of individual school heads, taking into account prevailing conditions, the safety of students and personnel, and advisories from DOST-PHIVOLCS, the Department of Education, and other authorities.
The city government urged school officials, teachers, students, parents, and guardians to remain vigilant and continue observing safety and precautionary measures.
Residents and school communities were advised to monitor official updates from DOST-PHIVOLCS, the Canlaon City Government, DepEd, and other concerned agencies.
The Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office will continue coordinating with DepEd and other agencies to monitor conditions and recommend renewed suspension or cancellation of classes if circumstances require it.
Executive Order No. 83 takes effect on August 26 and remains in force unless amended, revoked, or superseded by another order.
